Notice of Race in PDF-format Event Nordic Youth Sailing Championship for the Optimist, Europe, Zoom 8, Laser Radial, Laser and 29er classes The event is open for nationals or ordinary residents of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Organizing Authority Turun Pursiseura (TPS, Yacht Club of Turku) Ruissalon puistotie 316 FI-20100 Turku Finland Dates 18–23 July 2006 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 No national authority (Finnish Sailing Federation) prescriptions will apply. 1.3 For the Optimist class: racing rule 61.1(a) will be changed so that the display of a red flag is required. 1.4 Boats may be required to display advertising provided by the organizing authority. 1.5 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence. 2 ELIGIBILITY 2.1 The number of competitors is restricted to 20 male and 20 female competitors from each country in each of the Optimist, Europe, Zoom 8 and Laser Radial classes. In the Laser class the quota for each country is 20 male competitors and in the 29er class 20 crews. 2.2 (a) All competitors shall have been at least 12 years of age on 1 January 2006 (born before 1 January 1994). (b) Competitors in the Optimist class shall have been at most 14 years of age on 31 December 2005 (born after 31 December 1990). (c) All other competitors shall be at most 18 years of age on 31 December 2006 (born after 31 December 1987). 2.3 Each national authority with competitors in the regatta shall appoint at least one team leader who shall appoint a group leader for each class represented. 3 ENTRY 3.1 Entries shall be made by national class associations. 3.2 Entries shall be made no later than 30 June to the Yacht Club of Turku: www.turunpursiseura.fi/jnom2006/ 3.3 Entries for the Optimist team race shall be made in the race office no later than 21 July at 1800. 3.4 The information for each individual entry shall include the following: Name – Address – Country – Class – Sex – Sail number – Club – Date of birth. 3.5 The entry fee is 80 euros per crew member and is to be paid to Turun Pursiseura ry Bank account: 204918-13762 IBAN: FI8720491800013762 SWIFT: NDEAFIHH 3.6 Payment shall be made no later than 30 June. 4 SCHEDULE 4.1 Tuesday 18 July 0900–2100 Registration 1400 First warning signal, 29er 1800 Team leader meeting, Ruissalo Spa Wednesday 19 July 0800–1200 Registration 1200 Opening ceremony, Varvintori 1600 First warning signal, 29er 1700 Warning signal for practice race, other classes Thursday 20 July 1100 First warning signal, all classes Prize giving ceremony, 29er, Ruissalo Spa Friday 21 July 1100 First warning signal, all classes except 29er Saturday 22 July 1100 Team racing, Optimist First warning signal, Europe Prize giving ceremony, Europe, Ruissalo Spa Sunday 23 July 1100 First warning signal, Optimist, Zoom 8, Laser Radial and Laser Prize giving ceremony, Optimist, Zoom 8, Laser Radial, Laser and Optimist team race, Turun Pursiseura 4.2 If the 29er class has completed three or more races, no warning signal will be made after 1500 on Thursday 20 July. If the Europe class has completed three or more races, no warning signal will be made after 1500 on Saturday 22 July. If any of the Optimist, Zoom 8, Laser Radial and Laser classes has completed three or more races, no warning signal will be made to that class after 1500 on Sunday 23 July. 5 CHECKS OF DOCUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT 5.1 Each boat shall present – a measurement certificate (those classes that have them) – proof of third-party liability insurance; see paragraph 14. 5.2 A boat or equipment may be inspected at any time for compliance with the class rules and sailing instructions. 6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available at registration. 7 RACING AREA AND HARBOURS The racing area is the northern part of the Sea of Airisto (see Finnish Chart no. 26). The regatta base for the Optimist and Zoom 8 classes will be the TPS club harbour. The regatta base for the Europe, Laser Radial, Laser and 29er classes will be the Ruissalo Spa harbour. 8 COURSES The courses to be sailed will be of the windward-leeward and trapezoid types. 9 PENALTY SYSTEM 9.1 Appendix P will apply. 9.2 Decisions of the jury will be final as provided in rule 70.4. 10 SCORING 10.1 Nine races are scheduled for the Europe, Zoom 8, Laser Radial, Laser and 29er classes. 10.2 Eight races are scheduled for the Optimist class. 10.3 A series of team racing with national teams is scheduled for the Optimist class. 10.4 Three races in a class, excluding team racing, are required to be completed to constitute a championship in that class. 10.5 (a) When fewer than four races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. (b) When four or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. 11 SUPPORT BOATS The organizing authority will issue official coach boat status to two boats from each country for each class. These boats shall be registered with the race office and they will be given identification markings. 12 PRIZES 12.1 Gold, silver and bronze plaques of the Scandinavian Yacht Racing Union will be awarded in each class. 12.2 Gold, silver and bronze plaques of the Scandinavian Yacht Racing Union will be awarded in the Optimist team race. 12.3 Prizes of Turun Pursiseura will be awarded to the first third of the fleet in each class. 12.4 A prize will be awarded to the winner of each race in each class. 13 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta at their own risk, see rule 4, Decision to Race.
